About Us

History & Development
The Imagination Station grew from an idea that was first presented to area residents at a community meeting. It began as the Arts Subcommittee of a community development committee within the Stratford Chamber of Commerce. The goal of The Imagination Station was to improve the educational and cultural opportunities available to citizens in the Stratford area. They hosted their first exhibit in the fall of 1990. In 1992 the organization received a 501C-3 designation from the IRS and incorporated as "The Imagination Station."

Since 1990 The Imagination Station has welcomed over 18,000 visitors to this community community of 2000 residents. Exhibit topics have covered science principles, kites, structures, the treasures of Tutanhkahmen, Shakespeare, Columbus, optical illusions, Alexander the Great, puzzles and mathematics and Texas history. Annual programs include Main Street Art, The week of the Young Child and The Imagination Station Singers. Special programs have consisted of a full-length concert by the Randel Chamber Orchestra, 32 tours through the Discovery Center's portable Starlab Planetarium, an exhibit of world renown sculptor Judy Sutton Kracke's Time Cycles in Art, a visit from Papa Joe's Traveling Storytelling Show and the popular Blades in the Sky windmill exhibit. Other projects include: a community sculpture for Stratford's city park featuring a design by Judy Sutton Kracke; development of a showcase for local talent; a fundraising effort utilizing a custom designed and built playhouse; a kid designed and decorated ARTCAR that is driven to area parades to publicize The Imagination Station and its mission and What a Cowboy Knows, A Cowboy Gathering.

All of these accomplishments an successes have been accomplished by a volunteer board of directors. We at The Imagination Station have great plans for completion of the building renovation, funding a permanent part-time employee position and continuation and expansion of the excellent programming approved to the Sherman County area. Please consider being a part of this active volunteer board.

Mission Statement
The Imagination Station is dedicated to promoting the active use of imagination and creative thinking within the adults and children of our area. We strive to promote these skills through the presentation of hand on exhibits and hands on educational programs in the arts and sciences.
